Raymond

Alzheimer's disease affects so many families and touches lives across our nation everyday. The disease is characterized by loss of memory, perception, language and emotional behavior. This disease has taken lives of so many.

My Great- Grandma whom we called "Ella" short for Eloise was a true character. She could make you laugh at the drop of a pen. She died a few years ago and spent her last years in a Nursing Home because she was prone to falling and forgetting things often. She always had a smile on her face, her demeanor was always so charismatic and she could light up any room she walked in. The staff at the nursing home always found her involved in Bingo yelling out things that were just funny or telling people in walkers down the hallway "not to break the speed limit." She didn't understand why she was there because she was capable of doing all the tasks herself and never lost control of that. However, she thought my grandpa was cheating on her after he passed nearly 15 years before because she never recalled him coming home. She would hide her pantyhose and her pocket book from herself and these are just a few things she battled on a daily basis.

My family misses her dearly but she will always hold a place in our hearts, and mom and I often have "Ella" moments. I hope you enjoy the song Raymond by Brett Eldredge, this sweet song brings tears to my eyes. I hope you find someone like "Ella" in it as well.
